Otis photos and flyer from 1990
Chris sent some photos of Otis. For anyone who's not familiar with them, they were a great Lafayette punk/noise/industrial band with Chris Cart (Toxin III, Bubba Daddy) on guitar, Ricky Williams (Piece Core, Santeria, Bubba Daddy) on bass, and Danny Hall on drums. Danny's "drumset" was composed of a few drums and various pots and chunks of metal and whatever else he could scrounge. During their set he would get out a die grinder and start grinding away on it, showering the audience with sparks.
They opened for Fugazi at Haricot's, but probably their most infamous show was at Juliana's in 1990 where Danny performed "the exploding rat trick" during which they blew up a live rat in front of the audience. From Chris Cart:
"Danny mixed up gun-powder with salt peter, sulphur and charcoal acted like he fed the rat the mixture and set off a squib in front of the rat. . . the bang shocked the crowd. . . the puff of smoke covered up the sleight of hand. . . we had a cage right under the table. . . freaked people out. . . "
Here are photos of Danny performing the rat trick:
I would like to mention another Danny Hall trick. Danny could make himself regurgitate at will. At some show at The Bayou (don't remember if it was an Otis show or something else), there was a bouncer who was being a real dick. Whenever the bouncer would leave, Danny would go over and puke at the exact spot where the bouncer kept standing. The bouncer would come back out and scream bloody murder, then go get a mop and clean it up. As soon as he turned his back, Danny would do the same thing. This continued a few times until the bouncer said something along the lines of "when I find out who keeps doing that, I'm going to make them eat it." At that point, Danny runs up, pukes in his hands, and proceeds to eat it. The bouncer was so disgusted he just went back inside and left everyone alone for the rest of the night. It was hilarious.
You can also read an interview with Otis here. I put all of these photos here.

Danny's regurgitation-at-will technique did not occur without repercussions. . . his intestines became twisted and he started puking blood. . . he had to take muscle relaxers. . . to 'iron' out the problem. . .
I believe it. I've never known anyone else who was able to do that. I should point out for anyone who didn't know him that we're not talking about him putting his finger down his throat here. This was something he could do at will.
